System: 1 x 18kW ACOND Pro R Air Source Heat Pump
Sector: Residential Refurb
Location: Carmarthenshire
Additional Technologies: Coupled with Solar PV
Key Features: Retrofit installation replacing oil heating system

Overview:
Ffos Y Broga, a traditional Welsh family home dating back to before 1850, has undergone a remarkable transformation in its approach to heating and energy efficiency. Seeking to replace an ageing oil-fired system, the homeowners turned to Thermal Earth for a cleaner, more sustainable solution.
The result is a highly efficient renewable energy setup featuring an 18kW ACOND Pro R Air Source Heat Pump paired with a Solar PV array, delivering reliable heating and hot water while significantly reducing carbon emissions.
Challenge:
The main challenge was to upgrade an old, stone-built property with a modern, renewable heating system that could match the performance of the existing oil system without extensive modifications.
The homeowners required a solution that would provide consistent heat, high water temperatures, and improved efficiency—while respecting the character and structure of the historic building.
Solution:
Thermal Earth designed and installed a tailored renewable energy system centred on the 18kW ACOND Pro R Air Source Heat Pump, chosen for its ability to deliver water temperatures up to 70°C, making it ideal for retrofits using existing radiators.
To further enhance energy efficiency, Solar PV panels were installed, generating clean electricity to help power the system and reduce running costs.
System Features:
- 1 x 18kW ACOND Pro R Air Source Heat Pump
- Roof-mounted Solar PV system
- High-temperature output up to 70°C
- Compatible with existing radiator system
- Eligible for Boiler Upgrade Scheme (BUS) support
Key Benefits:
- Significant reduction in energy costs
- Lower carbon emissions and improved sustainability
- Quiet and efficient operation
- Seamless integration with existing heating infrastructure
- Renewable electricity generation via Solar PV
