Most air-source installations are permitted development under MCS 020 conditions. Clifton's listed crescents, conservation areas and Article 4 streets can need consent — which is a design question, not a dead end.

You may qualify for the Boiler Upgrade Scheme — we handle the application, and finance can spread the rest.
Eligible air-to-water or ground-source heat pump installations receive £7,500. If your property has no mains gas connection and you are replacing oil or LPG heating, the grant is £9,000 for applications properly made from 21 July 2026 to 31 March 2027. We check eligibility for your home.

Can a heat pump work in a Bristol terrace?
Yes — terraces are bread-and-butter work. The craft is in the unit position, the pipe routes and checking the radiators room by room.
What about a conservation area?
Usually still possible. Conservation and listed-building rules can change where the unit goes and whether consent is needed — we check your exact address before anything starts.
Is ground source possible on a city plot?
Sometimes — it needs space and rig access. Where it isn't practical, air source almost always is. For multi-home schemes, shared loops open more doors.
Will it lower my bills?
A well-designed system usually can — most of all when it replaces oil, LPG or electric heating. We'll show you the numbers for your own house, not a national average.
Do I need new radiators or underfloor heating?
Not automatically. Many homes keep most of their radiators; some swap one or two. We measure output at heat-pump temperatures before recommending anything.
Does every building need its own heat pump?
No. Parts of Bristol are getting heat networks, and blocks can share plant or a ground loop. For a single home, though, your own system is usually the practical route.
