Target Audience

This course is for Individuals wishing to install and service dry appliances and liners as a competent person. Anyone who wants to become qualified in this area but doesn’t have sufficient evidence of pre-requisites will need to attend H001 course and/or undertake a practical complete installation exercise half day. Building Control Officers (can attend without the below pre-requisites but will only receive a certificate of attendance).


 

Course Content

  • The installation, commissioning and servicing of dry appliances including open fires, stoves, cookers and independent solid fuel/wood boilers – both theory and practical aspects are covered;
  • English and Welsh Building Regulations including Document J and Document L;
  • European Standards;
  • How a chimney works and flue functions;
  • Fault diagnosis and solution finding and;
  • Different fuel types and characteristics.

 


Pre–Requisites

  • N/SVQ Level 2/3 in Plumbing or equivalent earlier certification that provides evidence of competence or;
  • N/SVQ Level 2/3 in Heating and Ventilating (Domestic Installation) or equivalent earlier certification that provides evidence of competence or'
  • N/SVQ Level 2/3 in Heating and Ventilating (Industrial and Commercial Installation) or equivalent earlier certification that provides evidence of competence or;
  • N/SVQ Level 2/3 in Oil-Fired Technical Services or equivalent earlier certification that provides evidence of competence or;
  • N/SVQ Level 2/3 in Gas Installation and Maintenance or equivalent earlier certification that provides evidence of competence or'
  • Gas Safe Registration that includes registration relating to ACS Unit CCN1 and HTR1 or;
  • OFTEC 101 or 102 or 105e certification or;
  • A registered member of GOMCS, APICS or NACS or;
  • Demonstrable appropriate work experience.

Multiple choice theory exam and practical assessment

 


Qualification

Successful delegates will receive a HETAS certificate of competence needed to apply for registration on the ‘Competent Persons Registration Scheme for the Installation of Dry Appliances.
